Questions on sculpting clear materials, polypainting and rendering...

I’ve got several questions so please bear with me.

1.A. How can I sculpt translucent or transparent objects? I’d like to do some ghostly figures and wondered if this was possible.

1.B. How can I create water for a the base of a turntable? Would it be the same process as the 1.A. above?

2. Is it possible to polypaint metallic colours and glossy/wet effects onto a model? If not, is there a programme I could use that allows this? I’m aware of the metallic materials, but I wanted a matte look with a few shiny paint chips. :stuck_out_tongue:

3. I’ve seen some people create absolutely stunning renders of their models, some so good they look real! From what I’ve pieced together they’ve been using something called VRay or MentalRay but I can’t find this anywhere on the ZBrush website. Have I missed it? Where can I find out more about it?

4. Thank you!

Hi!

To get transparent look of your object all you need to do is sculpt this object then pick one of the transparency available material like GelShader or JellyBean and paint with it. Do not forget to turn on “BPR Transparent Shading” in Display Properties rollout of a current subtool and “Transparent” option in the Render Properties of Render menu. Then click BPR button and enjoy your glass, water etc.

VRay and MentalRay are renderers for another modelling and animation applications like Maya, 3ds Max. It is one of several ways people use to get final image of their work. You can tweak materials, colors, render options in ZBrush and be satisfied with result or you can go further and combine render passes in Photoshop or export your mesh and maps in Maya and render with VRay or… There is no limit of perfection!

I hope it helps a bit)
