Questions before purchasing ZBrush

Hi there,

I’m considering purchasing ZBrush for personal use. I have access to it for work but would like a copy for my personal use and just have some questions about purchasing it.

Firstly, are OS X and Windows licenses completely seperate?

I have access to both and honestly would prefer the OS X version, but given the difference in release patterns for the OS versions I am not sure which to go for. Pixologic’s release plan seems to differ each time a release is available… 3.12 was released for Mac first… then 3.2, now 3.5 will be released for Windows first.

Secondly, when 3.5/4 are released, are the OS X and Windows versions going to be identical in all aspects, UI, features, etc?

Many thanks

At the present time, ZBrush is a single platform license. It can’t be run on both platforms without purchasing a second license. (We can, however, provide that second license at a discount in this situation. Contact http://support.pixologic.com for more info.)

Starting with 3.5, the PC and Mac versions will have all the same features, and are to be released within 30 days of each other. The reason for the long delay with ZBrush 3 for the Mac (which is what led to the Mac version currently being more advanced than the PC version) was that we were also trying to continue to support non-Intel Macs. (Which have totally different programming needs.) Since that is not going to be the case going forward, there will not be a need for delays.

Ah fantastic, thanks for the response.

I was not aware of the reasoning for the difference in release schedules, but it’s definitely good to know that upcoming releases should be simultaneous or close enough!

For now then I will purchase a Mac license and possibly contact sales regarding a second license if I find it necessary.

Just a couple more things, do you have a date on the Mac release of 3.5?

And finally, is the Maya plug-in for GoZ compatible (and equally functional) with the Mac version of Maya?

Thanks again for the response.
