Questions and Troubleshooting for ZBrush OSX 3.2, GoZ

Hi there,

make your tears dry, as Pixologic announced, all Mac-users can upgrade from 3.2 to 4.

(I just wrote a little mail to the pixologic support, and they answered in this way)

Hope, the 8th is coming soon (our summer is disastrous this year…)

Stephan

Hi.

And i thank you both.

Good. Didn’t notice that schedule.

Thanks.

Has there been any info on the mac system requirements for ZBrush 4?

I haven’t come across any mac ZB4 specs as yet… They did just post a new update on updating in support this morning.

For me to get goz working in maya, I had to create this mel on a different or new shelf, other than the goz=
“”""""""""
string $command = “source “C:/Users/Public/Pixologic/GoZApps/Maya/GoZbrushFromMaya.mel” ;” ;
eval $command ;

You could also try just sourcing GoZbrushFromMaya.mel in your script editor as a test to see if this shelf will work.

Goodluck

Hey, guys.

What settings would you recommend in the Mem settings, in ZBrush 4, on MacBook Pro 10.6.5 2,66 Ghz 4GB RAM?

How high, with this, am i capable of going?

I also use alot of other apps like Maya and Adobe applications…

Thanks.

leave it at the default. Let the OS handle virtual memory, since ZBrush needs as much memory as it can get (while still working efficiently to preserve memory) and you’re only going to make it difficult for it to do larger operations. That’ll just increase ZBrush crashing, not improve system responsiveness.

Ok.

So there’s no need for any changes for better performance?
It automatically uses the best performance, and speed, according to the system it’s on?

Compact Mem 256
Undo and tool docs 4
Maxpolypermesh 14.38
HD preview maxpoly 7.19

Thanks.

Hi all,
Where do I find "GOZ_test-sphere.ZTL ? I was watching the goz video for maya
and it mentions the GOZ_test-sphere.ZTL down loaded with the movie, which was just a link on the page and not down loadedGoZ_test-sphere.jpg

Hey.

MacBook Pro 10.5.6 2.66Ghz 4GB RAM i7 and ZBrush 4.

I’m getting crashes all the time when i hit the Equalize Surface Area on level 1…

Anybody else had that?

I recently moved the program over to this new laptop but
that probably isn’t a factor to this.

I really expected ZBrush to stop crashing all the time on my new one.
(Was really bad on my old one because of bad RAM)

Don’t get how this ZBrush works on these systems. (Or doesn’t work.)

Thanks

There’s more weird stuff going on too.

My lazymouse is always on every brush by default (which is weird) but doesn’t show up or work that way. Just works like a normal brush.

And occasionally my ability to rotate goes off (and only rotate) until i click the ZBrush icon again (in my mac shelf) and then it comes back.

Got some weird bug here.

Hey. Me again.

Another thing.

I started sculpting with a defaultsphere.ztl (polysphere) and after a while i suddenly have 2 or 3 polygroups on my mesh, and a changed topology containing triangles here and there…

Why is all this happening?

I am using the following steps:

  1. Go to level 1 and create a uv map - GUV tiles, map size 2048

  2. Still at level 1 - under Displacement Map - click create displacement map = the tool shifts a tiny bit and subtools penetrate at points - that’s the first problem.

  3. Under Normal Map - click create normal map - Tangetn and SmoothUV are selected.

  4. Click GoZ, choose Maya - it opens in Maya and the model looks smooth. When I render it, it has a little more detail but NOTHING like what it looks like in Zbrush. I have searched for the solution - most tutorials make it look so easy= UV, Displace, Normal, GoZ, Done! Not for me. Am I missing something? Are there settings I have to adjust?

Here is what it looks like in ZBrush:
zBrush_textures.jpg

First I tried this with 5 levels of subdivision with the same render result then I tried it by deleting levels 1 and 2. The only difference is what the resolution of the model in maya. The render looks almost the same.

Thank you,
Daniel
