Yes I tried it again about a week ago, I get the same as you at the same places. I have also sent over my machine specs. Shame, I’d really love to try this plugin but both my G4 laptop running OsX 10.3 and dual G5 desktop running 10.4 crash ZB at exactly the same points
I am just not prepared to mess with permissions and accounts to get 1 plugin to work, it really should just work but obviously we all know this and trust a solution is on its way.
Any progress on this issue?
Thanks
Sav
i am not bothered anymore to try any new approach, because it gets annoying when you can’t fix it but want to use zapp. so i stopped to find a solution until … hopefully … whenever. as i said, i don’t bother as I am not desperate.
ciao voolger
Version 10.2.8 did some things that created havoc for all sorts of programs, including ZBrush. I recommend upgrading your OS to a newer version. This will most likely resolve not only the ZAppLink situation but also fix a problem where some of your apps crash pretty regularly.
I’m now running OS 10.4.4, so ill try Zapplink again and see if i still crash zbrush when I try and pick up my model. I guess I’m hoping for Zapplink to work in ZB 2.5 when all of these Zapp add-ons… are more tightly interegrated? Zapplink is a great addition to zbrush on the WIN machines. I would be doing all my texturing with it at home if i could solve this.
I grabbed this from the error log in OS 10.4.4
Exception: EXC_BAD_ACCESS (0x0001)
Codes: KERN_INVALID_ADDRESS (0x0001) at 0x0b7ef15c
Certainly seems to be a permissions issue still. thought im not sure where? About the only thing left ive heard ppl do is to make a new admin account.
for a second i thougt maybe it worked… it took longer to crash when i brought projection master back to pick up my model with the new PS edited texture.
Could PIXO perhaps make some sort of app/plug/script that would set up the permissions when u install, run Zapplink. That way we all would be working with consistent settings, since it the randomness of everyones systems that seems to be the reason it works or does no.
Perhaps a series of folders to place certain things? just an idea. Id like to get this working. And fear ill still have this problem with 2.5
I’ve found that I share similar issues as some of you guys trying to get this to work. Basically ZL would launch photoshop ok but then wouldnt update the changes I made.
I’ve got it to work now by simply pressing ‘return to external editor’ (after doing my photoshop work and saving) instead of ‘OK ( Default)’ . this seems to force zl to look to see if the file is different and it then updates in the ui. Switch back to zb and it should be updated.
Hope this helps someone
well i too find i have to flip flop several times between PS and ZB to get ZB to acknowlegde my changes. But ZB does update and I see my updated texture. The crash always happens when i hit “g” and bring up projection master again to actually project the new texture onto the model and pikc up the model. I may see the PM interface for 5? seconds on a good day and then ZB unexpectedly quits.
So perhaps its not my permissions since data is able to be exchanged from PS to ZB and back.
I will try with a different mesh. ive done all my tests i think with the ZB star tool.
On my G5, I too have the same problem when the paint work’s done in Ps and moving back to ZBrush, press “g” to pick up the texture and the app just quit. Has anyone find a way to solve this?
Im having problems with getting Photoshop 7 to load the PSD from ZApplink. It will load Photoshop but it dosent open the PSD.
I’m running Windows XP SP2, AMD Athlon 2200+, 1gig of ram. I reinstalled Photoshop with no luck in fixing the problem. The only workaround I found was having to go into the ZApp folder and opening the file myself everytime I want to update it. Anyone have any ideas how I can fix it?
Hello,
Is it possible in Zapplink to preserve layers when importing/exporting the texture from photoshop?
After I pickup the projection I have edited in photoshop it is flattened. I would REALLY like that projection to stay as a seperate layer when I export my texture back to photoshop. That way I can project what I want without texture streaking and then have it in a seperate layer in case i need to continue editing.
Am I missing something?
Thanks,
Ian
Hi Ian,
ZAppLink can only use the layers that it creates. If you add any new layers in Photoshop, they must be merged into one of the original layers that came from ZBrush, or they won’t be recognized when you go back to ZBrush.
Thanks Aurick,
It seems that nomatter what combination I use that when I pickup the texture in PM the texture is flat. Although I really like the tool I would love it more if it was somehow able to have that functionality to keep the projected layer seperate or be able to export it somehow. It is very useful for videogame developers for many reasons.
Keep up the great work,
Ian
I have to echo R_machine’s concern. ZB needs layer support. Example: Tiger.
Minimum 2 layers, “Body” and “Stripes”
Client loves tiger, but would like body to be more orange
With layers, pretty simple adjustment in PS
Without layers you’re what, painting around and in between stripes by hand?
ZApp is crashing for me as well.
I’m running OS X 10.4.6
Photoshop CS 2
ZAppLinkRev2
Yep. 10. 4. 6 seems to have killed Zapplink. Bugger!
Edit- umm it’s not 10.4.6 (seen ZappLink working on other machine with that os) Still not working on mine ( same setup as guy in previous post )
I am running zapp link for zbrush2 in windows. I can’t seem to change the app it transfers to. I have tried deleting and reinstalling the plugin, but it still doesn’t give me the option to choose the external app. I can’t find any text file in the plugin folder that refers to an external app to change, so I am pretty much run out of options.
Any ideAs?
Thanks a lot.
The Windows version of ZAppLink doesn’t have a feature to set the application. You simply set Windows to use a different program to open PSD files. You do this by right-clicking on any PSD file and choosing “Open With”. From there, you select the program that you want to use, turn on the box for always using that program with the file type, and then save your settings. From that point forward, Windows will use that program to open any PSD files, and ZBrush will take its cue from that.
It’s been a long time since this lame plugin was released ans still there is not one working version for the mac …
buuu this SUCKS :td: :td: :td: :td: :td:
and photoshop and do not have any trouble. What is your problem exactly?
