Hello, everyone!
Firstly, so you know where this question originates, I admit to being a hobbyist. I’m mostly a 2D artist and real media sculptor but I do know the (very) basics of 3D modeling. I’m currently researching ZBrush to bring my love of sculpting into the digital realm (it takes much less room and less messy!).
My main goal is to create 3D models to digitally photograph (unsure of the proper terminology for this) and/or use as a base for further painting in Photoshop.
With that in mind, I am wondering as to the benefits of starting the model in Maya rather than using the tools native to ZBrush. I’m imagining it’s due to familiarity with Maya, since many of you are working artists, as well as (I’m guessing) being able to have more control over the mesh for future animating.
However, I could be missing something very important concerning good workflow so I’m asking. :o I’m also wondering how detailed the models are prior to being imported into ZBrush.
Since my pocketbook can only support so much investment in a hobby and I don’t have Maya, would using a 3D modeling app such as Blender achieve at least the basics should there be good reason, in my case, to model first and import?
Thank you for your time!
