Hello,
Hope this message finds everyone doing well. I’ve purchased Zbrush2 about a month or so ago and slowly but surely am working on learning this interesting program. As I’ve been working on a model I decided to subdivide the mesh to see how far I could subdivided it to a decent amount of polygons. First time I tried going over 1.76 mil polys it gave me a insufficient memory after trying for a while. So I tried it again the next day and I was actually able to subdivide it from 1.76 to 6.7million polys! I was able to save the model and reload it no problem. I was somewhat surprised since my pc is pretty basic.

So I figured I didn’t want to tax the pc and I should get more memory. I figured i’d upgrade more memory as I could and I got 1GB DDR PC3200 PATRIOT Single Module 400MHZ to go along with the 2X512MB dual channel ones I have at the moment. After I installed the memory I now have 1.87 GB of DDR SDRAM. I definitely still need more but thought this should help.
Unfortunately I tried to load my tool that is at subdivision 8 6.7+million polys and it won’t load. Does the Compact Memory thing and quickly gives insufficient memory/insufficient core memory and crashes the program. Where before it would load but take a long while to load and of course wouldn’t let me undo only once period so I had to be sure I liked the action I just completed.
So I’m curious as why now that I have more memory why it won’t load the tool. Did I just have a lot of luck before, a odd anomaly that allowed me to get that subdivions 8 with the 2X512MB of dual channel ram or did the new stick of 1GB DDR memory cause a issue? I’ve tried to keep the undo’s to 1 and raise the compact memory up from 977 to 1500 ish to see what would be best.
Also for future memory upgrades should I stick to getting DDR SDRAM that is dual channel sticks over a single stick of memory? Appreciate anyones feedback and thoughts on the matter, many thanks in advance .
