Question re "Making 3D Bolt" Tutorial

Hi,

I have visited the Digital Sculpting->3D Brushes->Creating a Bolt tutorial on Pixologic’s Video Tutorial section.

Half way thru’ this short tutorial, the author creates a bevel at one end of a hexagonal prism. Unfortunately, he is going a bit too fast for me at this point, and I haven’t been able to pick up how he does this (this is after replaying it again and again).

Could someone please tell me how this has been achieved ?

thanks,
Andrew

Hide the top poly row of the Hexagon - Deformation - Size +20

This is still not happening. I hide the top poly row, but when I apply the deformation/size=20, it insists on applying the bevel to the topmost visible poly row. This is not what happens in the tutorial.

I have no idea what you mean. Thats what I get.

OK, I’ve worked that out.

The next thing that is not working for me is that when I create the cylinder using the Insert Cylinder brush, and then use the Move option, it drags the bevelled hexagon along (as you would expect a brush to). In the video, the cylinder moves up and down completely independent of the hexagon.

What am I not doing correctly this time ?

When you insert your cylinder with mesh insert the hexagon should be masked and you can move the cylinder independently. I guess you have cleared that mask. Just mask the hexagon again and you can move the cylinder seperate. Both objects have different poly groups for easy selection.

OK Thanks, got it now

Yet another thing from this video I can’t do - and that is to get the thread working. I have only z highlighted for the Twist slider, but when I apply the twist I get this … I have replayed and replayed and replayed this part of the tutorial, but there is something that I am missing.

What is going on ?
