Question on "divide" under geometry. [Answered]

I’m currently learning how to use Zbrush and am watching tutorial videos however their layout under geometry is different from mine. I have the divide tool but no subdivision slider, and I cannot undo division by pressing control + D. Is there a way to undo division without control + Z? Also this is what I’m seeing.

This is what I’m supposed to be seeing, right? It even shows up that way under the Zbrush documentation reference guide on website.

You don´t see the SubD slider because you have a parametric object on your canvas, click Tool>MakePolyMesh3D.

You have a ZBrush primitive selected in the tool palette. Most of the default 3D objects in the Tool palette are primitives. The primitives are parametric objects that are not ‘fixed’ in shape - you can change them by altering the settings in the Tool>Initialize sub-palette. You can’t sculpt a primitive which is why the palette options are not the same. To make a primitive sculptable press the Tool>Make Polymesh3D button (at the top of the Tool palette).

To get started with sculpting just load the DefaultSphere project from Lightbox. The palette arrangement will then be as you are expecting.

Edit: I see stone3d beat me to it - thanks stone3d.

Thanks for the response everyone and now I just need 1 more novice question answered if that’s alright with you.

This is a standard cube without being divided and it has 544 active points.

This is that same cube after it has been divided once and then moved back down to 544 active points.

Why does it look different from it’s standard form even after it’s been moved back down to 544 active points.

Sorry if this is a really noob question that bothers you. I’ve been learning from an outdated Zbrush tutorial video I believe for Zbrush 3 so there are some minor differences I’ve been seeing but this one just makes me curious. I would learn from the Zbrush website itself but their embedded videos load really REALLY slowly. I asked them if I could download their videos from the website since that would probably be faster but no dice.

Thanks for taking the time to respond. I’ve finished learning about divide for right now and this is just something that has been bothering me so figured I would ask here.

Because you had the smooth modifier on when you have subdivided the mesh. If you turn Smt off and do the same operation it does not change its form.

Right sorry had a brain fart. After you said that I just realized I learned that not too long ago but didn’t see much point in it other than having a really soft looking cube or something like that. And then dividing without Smt on then turning it back on to divide gives interesting results but Sorry to bother you and thanks for the response! =)
