Question: How do I smooth a sculpt without having it revert?

Hi, Im working with the superaverage man, Currently I am trying to build a muffler so I extrude the area around the neck chin and face to the nose, and then I begin modeling using inflate, flatten and smooth. Smoothing however is a problem because it always reverts the chin and neck back into their original seperate forms and place when all I want it to do is smooth out the bumps. Is there a way to smiply smooth the bumps without having the surface return to its original position. I was thinking perhaps there was a button to press to make the current placements permenant. I’ve tried decreasing the Z intensity but it still reverts it just slower. Also, is there a way to permently close holes in the model so that even if I use smooth it wont revert?
