Question concerning retopology

I need to use retopology to reduce the polycount of one of my existing meshes. Bringing it back and forth between applications I somehow managed to get stuck with my high version, and I can not use reconstruct subdiv to get them back.

I need to get a low-poly version again somehow, so I figure retopology would be a good choice, but is there any way that I do not have to re-do the whole thing manually?

If I could automatically do a quick generation of the entire mesh, and then manually retop the higher detailed areas, that would be great! Is this at all possible?

No, there isn’t a way to do that at this time. At least, nothing that I know of.
