Question as to using the eraser

I have been trying to sketch with in zbrush.

I fillied a layer with white to sketch on top of and if I use the eraser that is on the back of the pin it continues to draw.

If I select the eraser from the pallet then I erase the white background as well.

I have tried adding a layer on top of the white background, but then the only way that I can see any marking once I try to draw is by looking in the layer pallet. It doees not seem to want to draw on top of the layer that I added.

Any ideas as to what I am doing wrong???

I don’t know how to take a screen shot to better explain. :frowning:

It sounds like what you’re trying to do is use the sketch layer as a reference while you do your drawing on another layer. Is this correct? If so, run the script in this thread, which shows a technique for “faking” the Photoshop approach to layers. It also teaches a bit about how to control draw depth.

I’m sure there are other techniques out there, too. (I’d love to know Winged One’s technique for the wizardess picture! hint hint) But this should at least get you going.

Hope it helps!

Thanks I’ll go check the thread out!!!

I only had the layer added to try to keep the back ground from erasing that I was drawing on, no reference at this point.

Again thanks,

William

Okay. That’s an easy one, then. To keep from erasing it, just turn that layer off before you start erasing on the other layer. Turn it back on again when you’re through. You do this in the Layers palette by clicking on the thumbnail of the layer. Any visible layers have a teal box. Any invisible layers have a gray box.

Can’t wait to see what you’re working on!

'Evening William . . .

If I’m to understand you correctly, you want to draw on the canvas & if you make a mistake, you want to erase it???

If this is correct, not a problem:

Open ZBrush -
set your screen resolution -
select the color you want to fill the drawing area -
select “Material / Flat Color” - select “Layer / Modifiers / Fill” - select “Document / Modifiers, click in the little black box at the bottom of the window & click-drag to the color on the screen”. Your “Document Background Color” should now match your filled layer color.
Now you can pick another color & draw all you want to & if you make an error or want to change something, just pick the “Eraser Brush” & erase.

I hope this helps some & have a good one . . . Mark.

Thanks, Aurick and Kruzr,

I CANT wait to get this going!

All that pressing the undo button was killing me!
