Question about working with Subtools

Hello. I was reading a tutorial about subtools and a character was made in ZBrush made of 4 subtools, his body, arms, legs and head. Each with their own number of polys. So im trying to do the same in my workflow but the mesh never closes up perfectly after I subdivide a body part. The polys dont match up I guess?

Heres the part of the head I need more resolution in, but it never comes back together with the body correctly.

If you press Tool>Geometry>Crease for each subtool before subdividing then the edges will not be affected by the subdivision and still match up.
