? Question about subdividing

I’m having a weird problem with subdividing to get higher resolution. I brought an old project in to work on that I haven’t touched in a long while. When I hit divide it ups the resolution but doesn’t keep the lower level. I have no idea why it’s not keeping the lower res mesh. I tried converting to polymesh and it still does it. Any idea on how/why it’s doing this? I’m sure it’s something simple that I’m just forgetting.

Are you saying that when you subdivide once that you still only have 1 subdivision level only in a higher resolution? Or do you have 2 subdivision levels after subdividing once?

It does not have ANY subdivision levels when I hit divide. Almost like as if you were using the dynamesh feature.

I think it would be better if you posted some screen grabs.

you’re probably doing a local subD level.

Try clearing your mask and then dividing.

Well, whatever it was is working fine now. Can divide and get multiple levels. I guess it was a mask or something but I didn’t get any error messages like you normally would.

you don’t get an error when a mask is on an object with no subD levels when you try to subD. That is a proper function that Zbrush can do. It is a local subD level. It used to be useful, not so much anymore though.
