Question about Saving entire Projects with Subtools.

I’m wondering if anybody can shed some light as to why this is happening.

I’m following along with this tutorial about making a tileable brick wall.
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=WcQPBUbGi0w

I saved my project under, File, save as, and saved the project along with the brick tools.

Now, I’ve opened my project up again and my tools (brick tools) are acting like 2.5d brushes instead of 3d objects that I can move scale and roatate.

I’m baffled, any idea why that is happening? Is there some checkbox/procedure I need to follow when saving out an entire project?

Doug,

I just read through some of those links. I apparently saved my file as a Zbrush Project, so, it should have saved my subtools along with it; right?
I see my subtools under the tool pallet, it’s just when I try to draw a brick, it doesn’t give me the gyro, it acts as a 2.5d brush, or something weird like that…

I can drag out the standard primitive tools with no problem and get the gyro.

I’m still confused; any idea what I’m doing wrong?

Update:

So, I created a new layer, tried draggin out a subtool and it works now.

I went back to one of my other layers where the weird 2.5 thing was happening and now the subtool drags out again with the Gyro.

No idea, but it’s working now?

Layer? I’ve responded to lots of posts. More often than not this issue is because when you draw it out, you need to enter Edit mode right afterwards, click nothing else before that button or use the hotkey. http://www.zbrushcentral.com/showthread.php?183355-Looking-for-tutorial-on-navigating-sub-tools&p=1065310&viewfull=1#post1065310

I’m aware of hitting t to go into edit mode.

The tutorial I’m following uses Layers. Up at the top menu, the layer options. Part of the tutorial discusses drawing out tools in 2.5 d mode and then tiling them with the ` key.

Once a layer is made, your other layer is frozen in 2.5D mode. No more 3D editing for it on that layer then without clearing the layer and drawing out your tool again. HTH
