does anybody have or know where i can download a pdf file on how to make skin in photoshop for a texture wrap… following the zbrush manual, where upham explains how to do a texture wrap using real life photos he mentions that you need to add a skin layer to blend with the face parts… i know this could be done really easy with the texture master but i want to experiment with photoshop …anybody …
i don’t mess with photoshop shop much but i think you need to trace the outer edge with the (MAGIC WAND) then fill your texture from there paint it on or just Fill.
magic wand is in the tool pallet on the left towards the top
Hi Dr. JJ. I think I follow what you are asking for and I am going to assume you are using a UV Map of the object so let me give it a shot. Making a real life photo fit a modeled object is not as easy as just wrapping the texture to the model. If the the photo has not been distorted correctly to match the UV Map of the head model then the texture will distort in all kinds of unwelcome ways when you apply it. Also the facial geometry of the model needs to somewhat match that of the face map otherwise the texture just doesn’t fit right. As far as blending the face parts all you need to do is create another layer in photoshop underneath the facial map layer. Do your editing to the face parts (on a seperate layer above the UV Map layer) and then create a general skin texture on the bottom layer (you could use noise and clouds and blur then then use various brushes with burn and dodge to create a good base skin texture). Once your base skin looks like it matches well with your face parts layer you can save the image and give it a go. Just make sure there are no grid lines visible in your image (I would keep the UV Map template on a seperate layer and draw “over” it on another layer). Here’s how I would set it up…
Layer 1…face texture (distorted and adjusted to fit UV Map layer below)
Layer 2…UV Map layer
Layer 3…base texture (to fill in the areas around the face parts in layer 1)
I apologize if this sounds a bit confusing. I wasn’t entirely sure of what you were fishing for. Let me know if anything else comes to mind.
By the way…you can use try using the liquify feature in photoshop 6 to help distort the face map to fit the uv map.
I found this site. Maybe it will help http://painting.about.com/gi/dynamic/offsite.htm?site=http%3A%2F%2Felfwood.lysator.liu.se%2Ffarp%2Fflesh%2Ffleshtone.html
dr. jjwow - I’m not sure exactly what you are looking for either, but here is a great tutorial on using the distortion/displace filter:
Maybe this will help?
