Question about importing textures

When I import my textures, the resolution is really really bad…any troubleshooting tips? thanks :+1:

It sounds like you need to increase the resolution on your model/tool. Not sure though. I need a little more info.

I’m still getting comfortable with ZBrush myself. I just try and match my poly count to my pixel count. That being said, Would someone please correct me if that isn’t a good work flow?

thanks for the quick reply…I will give it a shot…How do you bump up the res on your model?

uphillcastle,

If you have a texture applied to your model (in other words, the Tool>Texture Map submenu thumbnail shows a texture, and the Tool>Texture Map>Texture On button is on) and the resolution is poor then it is because the texture you created or imported is not big enough.

If you have converted your texture to polypaint, or painted on your model in Tool>Polypaint>Colorize mode and the result is poor then you need to subdivide your model by pressing Tool>Geometry>Divide. As a rule of thumb, you need at least 1 million polygons for polypaint to look good.

There’s more information here (though bear in mind UI changes for 3.5 R3):

Hey Marcus

I am actually trying to follow this Tut on deforming geometry with an alpha channel…http://gnomonology.com/group/31

The tutors says

"Hit simple brush and select plane 3d

Go to Initialise and bump up the H and V radius up

Bump up subdivisions

Import texture"

But when I follow this my image doesnt even show up on the mesh?

Any ideas? Its kind of frustrating…I am not sure what I am doing wrong. Thanks for your time anyhow

uphillcastle,

(I’ve split your questions into a new thread as the thread you posted in was specifically for questions about the online docs Tips & Tricks .)

When applying a texture map in 3.5 R3 you need to:

  1. Import the texture into the Texture palette.

  2. Select the model you want to apply the texture to in the Tool palette.

  3. Click on the thumbnail in the Tool>Texture Map submenu and select the texture from the pop-up.

Many of the tutorials out there are for earlier versions of ZBrush. To make sure you understand the differences check out the PDFs which are installed along with 3.5 R3, or the online docs:

Ok so I try this way,

I make a 3d plane. I import my texture. Now I have messed around with the initialise and set the H and V division to 512 by 512 and it gives me a good clean res of my texture,

But the see the texture - I go to color and Fill object.

Is this correct? In the tutorial when the tutor imports the texture it just appears on the plane :qu: Maybe he is using r2…not sure…

Sorry Marcus while I was writing - you posted your response
