Question about Edit/Transform mode

Hi, Im pretty new to Zbrush and Ive been having an issue with the edit/transform mode. When I open up a saved document that i had previously been working on, it shows up as almost like a 2d image. I cannot rotate it, the edit button is grayed out. When I try clicking or dragging something it will use one of the brushes (Ex. Singlelayer brush, Fiber brush) How do I get out of this mode so I am able to rotate my document and make more edits to it?

P.S. Ive noticed this occurs when I want to add, for example, hair to my document. When I click FiberBrush, a popup shows up and says, you must exit Edit/Transform mode. I click yes and I cannot figure out how to get back into whatever mode i was previously in. I know this is badly typed but if needed, Ill post a screenshot of my problem.
Thanks,
Alex

a 2.5D object isn’t 3d anymore.
you need to save a .ztl (ztool) to be able to continue to work in 3d.
tool>save as (ctrl+S in edit mode).

You also can’t use 2.5d brushes on a 3d mesh unless you’re using projection master.
