Question about division level max

Hey guys so I just started using zbrush last weekend so I’m new to this. Just throwing that out there in case the answer to this is really simple. haha

Anyway I’m sculpting something that has reached my max polycount/subdivision level. When I try and click divide it gives me a message saying I need to change the memory settings and clear the other sub levels. Two problems. I tried cranking all the sliders in the mem settings, and I don’t have any sub division levels visible. I think it is because I’ve been saving the tree out as a tool every time and not a doc? Maybe…

Anyway I’m hoping someone can help me.

Thanks.

It’s likely you hit “delete lower subdivision levels” at some point, or possibly exported the tool as an obj (which has no subd levels), rather than saving it as a tool.

The message is just a suggestion on how to clear more memory for higher res meshes. It is not necessary to have lower subD levels in order to increase maximum poly limits in the memory section.

A warning, though. Depending on your system, increasing the limits in that section beyond a certain point may produce meshes that are problematic to work with, and begin to affect program stability. Consider instead splitting your model into subtools, if there are logical pieces to separate. In the case of a large continuous mesh that you want more detail for, consider using HD geometry, which can be set to be rendered, or exported in displacement maps.
