Question about crazy spikes in retop

I am attempting to retopologize a scan that I made of a toy gun. Everything seems to be working fine until I attempt to retop the trigger mechanism. At that point the projected skin flips inside out and spikes all over the place. What do think is happening here are some pics. Unfortunately, I erased the topology that was causing the issues and i do not have pictures of the spiked mesh. However, every time I attempt the troubled area I get similar results.

Note that the retop mesh is not complete and the projected skin shows skikes too where the mesh is not complete. That’s not what I am talking about though…

You’re going to need to adjust the settings in the Tool>Projection menu. Range and Strength may both need to be adjusted. And it may help to finish the retopology before you start messing with the projection.

thanks aurick… I went back to it the other day and resized the main zsphere as well and moved it. it seems that is was exactly where I was having issues. Once i did that, most of my problems went away. I was still having a few issues but I will do what you say and see if it helps any…

Thanks again.

Your trigger guard retopo is incomplete, so around there you can expect to see some distortion. Finishing the retopo will help.
