Quester's Sketchbook

Hello, all. I just wanted to start off by saying that I am new to both Zbrush and this forum. Now that we got that outta the way, I wanted to tell ya’ll about my project for my University.

Since I want to be a modeler, and blizzard is one of the places that I’d eventually like to work at (you gotta aim high, right? ), my teacher wants me to make 3 cinematic quality models in 3 months.

I chose 3 models form all of the blizzard concept art that I found. I am doing a Hydralisk, a Dark Templar (specifically Zeratul from the new StarCraft2 concept art), and a Paladin (specifically a concept that I found for the Crystal Forge armor from WoW).

This is what I have for my Hydralisk (which is the first one that I want to do till completion). I not only have to model this thing, but I have to texture it, too. So I got my work cut out for me.

Anyways, this is my base mesh

and this is what I have so far in ZBrush

Okay guys, I got a ‘small’ update. I basically finished my hydralisk’s head and I’m probably gonna start on the body next. Crits & Comments welcome!

Thanks, ya’ll, for looking at my stuff. I made another small update. I wanted to show you guys what I have for the body so far. My hydralisk is comprised of 4 objects: the Body, the Head, the Shell after the head, and the Shell after that. I have basically finished the head as you have seen, but now I am working on the body. Here’s what I have so far (I think I said that already  ). If you comment, I promise not to bite

Your making great progress. I don’t think you’ll have any problems knockin’ out all 3 project in 3 months. Sculpting looks pretty solid. Keep up the good work.

Thank you j lizzle

This is what I been working on today.

More arm detail.

Did even more arm detail. Still working on the arms :stuck_out_tongue:

I been working on the spikes a bit. Here they are. I gotta work on his ‘feet spikes’ next. I think these spikes are pretty much done, though I could pick at 'em for a bit longer I think. Dunno. What do you guys think?

yup. Me again. little update. Been touching up on his arms and his chest muscles and his spikes a bit.

K, this is what I have so far. I worked on his arm again (I had done it earlier today but ZBrush crashed while saving. Thank GOD that it didn’t corrupt that file because it was my most recent file. All it did was revert to two hours prior to me saving…)

Only his left arm is done. I am not using symmetry for his arms

Oh…I really like your Zerg Hydralisk model. Really cool sculpt

Thank you, SolidSnakexxx

I reworked the upper arm and then did the symmetry thing and reworked the other side. I am now refining the ribcage thing. I’ll post some pics when I get some more stuff done.

Question: should I add more detail to his ‘hands’? They look a bit plain compared to the head and upper arms. Would be nice if I hear suggestions

nice work  Starcraft is the bomb

Thanks Vexona, Starcraft is the bomb

K, I am working on the ribcage now. I wanted to post the concept art THAT I DID NOT MAKE on here so you guys could see what I’m trying to do.

Okay, here’s what I got so far. Not done yet, of course, but wanted to show you guys :stuck_out_tongue:

Man this is some really cool creature design.
I really dig this kind of organic armour.:+1:

Hurdy Gurdy Man: Hey thanks, man! I wish I could take credit for him, but the Hydralisk is Blizzard’s character

Okay, I guess I am pretty much done with the ribcage. It has been frustrating because Zbrush has been freezing up on me and I gotta do like an hour’s worth of work again each time it does it. At least my saves don’t corrupt :stuck_out_tongue:

Here it is what I have so far. As i mentioned, the ribcage is basically done and I hashed out some of his back (though it is probably gonna be covered up with the other carapaces)

I’m gonna take a bit of a break and then I’m gonna attempt to redo his arms

K, so instead of doing the arms, or restarting them, I started reproportioning the Hydralisk. I dunno if you’ll be able to notice what I did, but i made him longer, lengthened his neck and tried making his spikes longer and his carapaces bigger (on his back)

It’ll be a day or two before I do another update because I need to work on stuff for another class.

Nice work! i started a hydra myself 3times but never finished.
hope you gonna finish him.

cool creature,keep it up.

comming along nicely!
