Quake Project: Monster Models for Quake Mod

It’s not a problem, Abe. It didn’t work out the way it should have, but in Max you’re supposed to be able to bake the bump map into the normal mapwhen you bake the normal map.

So if you have a bump map in the slot when you go to bake the normals, it SHOULD bake the bump details into the normal map. It didn’t work with this one though… :confused: I guess I’ll have to add the bump as a second map to him… The texture artists are gonna love me. :smiley:

Alrighty, this is what I’ve got so far for the normal mapped low poly. I’m working on the normals in Photoshop so I can TRY and clean up some edges, and weirdness. I just can’t seem to get the hang of normal mapping armor with lots of contours.

ARGH! Here I was thinking the work was done, and I forgot all about his sword. Meh, I guess that won’t take too long, and hopefully that won’t break the poly limit. I’d hate to have to redo the normal maps casue I forgot his sword. :smiley:

Thanks, Odhinn, I’m really glad he turned out as good as he did. This guy’s been fighting me every step of the way, but I finally got him!

Rhydian, I’m so glad to say this, I’m just a modeler/monster designer, I don’t have to do the rigging. :smiley: I’ve still got a lot of models to do, and if I had to do the rigging as well, I’d be in a world of hurt.

I’ll be starting the sword today, and I don’t wanna get too fancy with it, so it shouldn’t take too long. I’ve already spent too long working on the character. The Ogre will be up next, and I need to get a better feel for what an Ogre looks like and does before I start working on him.

I’ll post a shot of the sword when I get it to a respectable level. Thanks again for the comments.

Here he is, the finished Hellknight in all his normal mapped, sword having, area shadowed glory. I hope you like him cause he was hard to make. And I know the sword is VERY basic, but as it sits, he’s about 10 poly’s under the limit, so I couldn’t really push it anymore than that.

a bit dark me think, ive got a scene for maya 6.5 with light that works pretty well in the viewport if u want em? they are cool for quick screenshots :slight_smile:

Thats a Killer sword you’ve made there with 134 polys :+1: :+1: :+1: .I like the detail you’ve put in the normal map…I’m sure it’d look great with lots of specular and a texture:sunglasses:

EDIT:BTW,abe,ReplicA is using max 8 for those renders…
and yeah,I do agree that it’d be a lot more clear for ppl to see the details if there were brighter lights…but maybe ReplicA wanted to show the guy the way he might probably look in the game…:wink:

Thanks, Abe, and Sriram. I went ahead and did a render of him with no lights in the scene. I like it with the low lights, and lots of shadows, but that’s just me I guess. :slight_smile:

Tarbaby is almost done, since it was just a big blob of goo, it’s been pretty easy. I’ll post a finished render when I’m done, and after that, the Ogre is up. Till then, enjoy this lightless render of the Hellknight

completely off topic again, I got my second monitor to work again! I’m happy. :smiley: Turns out, it’s just a bad connection in the cable to the video card. I’m very happy I got to work again. :slight_smile:

Yeah, I forgot the high-res version, but here he is. I needed a model that quick and easy, just a small success that would help me feel better about what I’m doing. So now I will start in on the Ogre.
