QRemesher error

Hi, I am new to Zbrush, still struggling a bit, but getting there. I just stumbled across a problem with the Qremesher, which seems to work fine with all the other subtools in my scene, but once I use it on the one I need, it goes through the whole calculation just to give me this message in the end: ERROR:" Remeshing error encountered. Remeshing aborted." Anyone else ever get this message? Is there a workaround? Maybe some general DON’Ts to avoid this in the future?

Thank you in advance for your replies.

This is a hard one to answer because there are a lot of variables you don’t address in your post. For example, you haven’t said anything about the model (such as its polycount). You also haven’t said anything about your Qremesher settings.

Have you read the New Features PDF found in your ZBrush 4R4\Documentation folder? There’s a significant section on Qremesher.

Hi, thanks for your quick answer. I will definitely dig into the resources as soon as I have the time. In the mean time, the mesh was alright according to the mesh integrity check inside zbrush, it was around 5 000 000 polygons with dynamesh applied to it several times already. As to the Qremesher settings, I set the polycount to “half”, tried Automasking turned on and off, with a custom mask and even without, with guides and without them, the result was always the same.

Hi, I am having the same problem in similar circumstances. I have a few dynamesh models, polypainted. Around 5-6 million polys. I have tried automask, custom masking, no masking. I have tried remeshing to between 1000-5000 polys on several meshes and always receive the same error. No mesh generation. I tried remeshing a polymesh primitive, and it generates a mesh. I tried exporting my model as obj and reimporting it, same result.

I have a cross-platform license, and both the Windows and Mac versions have given me trouble since the most recent post-4r4 update. When I tried remeshing these tools in Windows, I got the same error as above, and no mesh was generated. However, I tried remeshing in the OS X version, and something strange happened. A few days prior, I tried remeshing a tool I was sculpting, when zBrush suddenly crashed. No mesh was ever generated. When I went to remesh these newer tools that didn’t work in Windows. Instead of generating no mesh, it produced the low-poly version of my sculpt from a few days ago.

I checked in the temp folder where zBrush now stores the objIn and objOut for the qremesher plugin. I moved the objs out of the folder, tried remeshing again, and was now getting the same result as in Windows. No low-poly mesh generation at all. In the temp folder however, two new objIn and objOut files were generated, I tried importing them separately, one imported fine and was the original high-poly mesh, and the other was corrupt. Could it be that zBrush is having problems writing objs produced by the qremesher plugin?

I found Qremeshing on meshes larger than 1M poly’s resulting in a similar error message.

I always try to keep the mesh below that treshold…

Good luck!

Mark

Oh man, now I feel silly, I was about to try decimating my mesh, then performing the qremesh, and I just got lazy and went to bed. Tried it today and you are right. Decimate first, maintaining the same overall shape of your model, then run qremesher. Thanks very much, Mark!
