Pulling my hair out!!! (answered)

Ok I know I’m new to ZBrush 4 but I really don’t understand why after creating a Zscetch and saving it in the only format ZBrush seems to be making available to me: ZPR, I’m not able to go back later and open the said file to work on it again. In fact it seems that I’ve lost the files all-together. Can someone please tell me a way to save my work so I can open and work on it again. And, maybe if someone could explain why these ZPR’s I’ve made won’t open (or maybe how I can open them) I would be very grateful.

What version of ZBrush are you using?

doesn’t he have to be in z4 for .zpr files Marcus?
You’ll need to load the files using lightbox. hotkey (,)

You can also save out a .ztl file by going to tool>save as.

Indeed yes, but the problems he is having suggests that he is loading a ZBR file.

Not necessarily. You can also use the ‘File’ menu.

re: lost files…Where did you save the files to and where are you trying to open the files from?

You won’t see your files in Lightbox under the Projects catagory unless you saved them to the ZProjects folder. Did you perhaps save them to a different folder and then expected them to be in Lightbox Projects catagory?

As to why you can’t open your files, can you explain what you have in your file and what exactly you do when you save it?

Z4

I tried to open them from the file menu. Witch is also where i saved them.

[The files are ZSketches. I went to the file menu clicked on “save as” and named the file without taking off the .zpr from the end. I was’nt tring to open it from the light box. I just went back to the file menu and tried to open the file from there.

OK, thanks.

After loading your file:

  1. Check that the Edit button is on. If it is, you should be able to edit your ZSketch. Press ‘A’ to toggle between preview and zsketch mode.

  2. If the Edit button is off, clear the canvas by pressing Ctrl+N. In the Tool palette, make sure your ZSketch model is selected - it will show in the large thumbnail at the top of the palette - then draw it on the canvas. Press the Edit button (or ‘T’ on the keyboard). You will then be able to edit your ZSketch.

Also remember that you can toggle between ZSketch mode and the underlying ZSphere structure by pressing Shift+A (when not previewing the mesh).

If none of the above works then please open a support ticket at the Support Center

No you dont understand, my files wont load. The ZPR’s wont load after I save them. That is to say , some of them wont load. This is what I dont understand. Am I just cursed by the pixol gods.?

Thank You for your help though.

As I said, submit a ticket at the Support Center.

Thank you Marcus. Its good to know that thier are people out there that are willing to try and help.

Wow… I thought I was the only one having this problem. I spent an hour making something with zShperes, saved it to a folder, then when I tried to open it, the file isn’t being read by anything. It won’t open in zBrush at all. It saved as a ZPR which then won’t open in zBrush. What sort of trickery is this?

dopepope,
Please submit a ticket at the Support Center and provide a link where the problem file can be downloaded.
