pug boy: WIP

hi! this is my first time posting here! http://static.flickr.com/38/75134970_fbee7b4bef_b.jpgi’m about to bring this mesh into zbrush. how’s my topology? maybe unncessarily detailed for bringing into zbrush? i was considering doing a full body but I think I want to focus my time on detailing out the face in zbrush. I was wondering what you guys think? at the bottom is the concept i came up with, a cross between a pug dog and a human.

pop him in zbrush and have at it!

looks like a cool idea will be fun to see how you go about it.

I really love your idea…and might I add he is one cool character.
Great imagination…great ideas…great concept.

Can not wait to see the end product!!!

started zbrushing. i’m at subdivision 5 after a late night:

i put some more hours into it, added more fat folds, skin details. what do you think :qu: crit me hard if you can, will hopefully put this in my reel… thanks!

hi

don’t really have any crits…like where you are taking him so far…will keep watching.

perhaps as ya get further along we can give some crits…seems kinda early yet since he’s your creation at the moment and we aren’t sure exactly what your plans are kinda thing.

keep going!

thanks for the support! i appreciate it!

That looks great, love the way it’s coming together.

If you don’t mind me asking, how do you create those folds in the face, I try to do that but it always comes out very rough and, just awkward looking. For example the fold to left of your nose, that follows down to your mouth, and goes around it a little. I also am quite horrible at making lips look natural, and they look very rough and either too large or too small. Any tips on making my folds and lips better and less… weird looking? Not sure of term heh.

To get sharp creases you want to carve into it with a small brush size with a large focal shift. having the same settings would be good for pulling out the edges of the lips too. And for getting any sort of anatomy to look natural i guess my advice would be to have good reference. Look up lips on google images and get familiar with the form before sculpting. Was this helpful?

I will play with that some more, I tryed it and it came out still messy, I think I am just doing something majorly wrong. Thanks for the tips!

Dan

crits please. i textured it and rendered it in maya with displacements and bump. also has spec maps and stuff… what do you guys think?

i’ve been doing some turntable renders of this for my reel.
here’s an initial edit of the turntable renders for my reel, its 6 megs:

Can’t see the old Flickr photos to compare your WIP shots to what you have now, but I think he looks right nice!
My current connection’s too slow to check out the turntable render right now, but I’ll try to give it a look when I get on a faster conn.
I can’t tell if both eyes are facing forward, but if you wanted to enhance his pug attributes, maybe you could make him sorta cockeyed, like a lot of pugs look. Example: http://www.nataliedee.com/120905/ice-cream-hat-new-for-2006.jpg
You may already have him that way and I just can’t tell from the 3/4 view, though. :sunglasses: :+1:

Thanks for the response! Yeah, sorry i deleted those shots from flickr. I do have him cockeyed but you’ve got me thinking maybe I should exaggerate it or make the eye movements more erratic. Hmmm… Thanks for the input!
