Projection Master Irregularity Issues

Hello everyone,

I am currently following a tutorial creating a pillar that has grooves going down it.

However I am having some symmetrical irregularity issues.

I created the pillar from a cylinder initialized with a 32 HDivide. Then in lowest Subdiv I set the Display Properties to double.

Using Projection Master (Only toggling double sided, deformation and normalized) I then drew a radial stroke with a 16 main repeat count and a ZIntensity at 100 and Alpha 1.

When I hit pick up now the cylinder does not look symmetrical and has many unexpected irregularities at the bottom.

In the tutorial it comes out perfect?

I think the tutorial might have been done using an older version of ZBrush.

If the image did not upload below I pasted a link to an image showing the outcome and process:

Any advice will be much appreciated.

Cheers

I think you must be using a very old tutorial as I get this issue in ZBrush 3.5. It’s easy to fix:

  1. Mask the good end of your cylinder, extending the mask to about half-way (it’s not critical).
  2. In the Tool>Deformation menu, find the Smart Resym button. On the right hand end of the button, click the little Z and unclick the little X, so that the resym operation will be across just the Z axis.
  3. Press Tool>Deformation >Smart Resym.
  4. Ctrl+drag the background to clear the mask.

EDIT: You seem to be using ZBrush 4R4. There’s been an update, see here: http://www.zbrushcentral.com/showthread.php?170338-Questions-amp-Troubleshooting-for-ZBrush-4R4-Update-2

HTH,

Thanks Marcus,

That did the trick! Spent hours on this last night you saved me from further headaches tonight. Such a simple way around. Didn’t have my thinking cap on.
