Projection Master has permanently ruined my shaders?!

So I was working in projection master then when I came out of it my material went very flat, as if all the specular was sucked out. Also any other material I put on the model, the same thing!

So no problem I’ll just restart… BOOM! Shaders still look flat! It’s as if the specular has been taken out or something. I looked in the modify material section and the colours below are white on all materials :frowning:

Can anyone shed light on this bug? I cant think of any way to get around it.

EDIT: ok just did an ‘init zbrush’ and loaded a sphere on default red material and it all seems fixed. Though projection master does this alot and its a pain, so would still like to get to the bottom of it :\

it may have to do with the light going off. go up top to the light menu and turn off the light, then open the material palette and look at the shaders.

When this happens again:

  1. Turn off Edit mode (hit T on keyboard).
  2. Set the Z Intensity and RGB Inetnsity sliders to 100.
  3. Turn on Edit mode (hit T on keyboard).

Thanks for the replys guys, will try these suggestions out if it happens again

The mesh just turns flat solid grey when I do this :frowning:

The only solution is to save your tool and Innit Zbrush button in preferences, then create a sphere (to fix the shader issue) then load your tool, which isn’t ideal as this happens a lot! But it’s the only fix that works. Bit of a huge bug!

That is very strange. Can you post a screenshot of the whole interface when this first happens from Projection Master? Bugs can only be fixed if they can be reproduced by the development team and this one is a puzzle.

Thanks,

You are running ZBrush 4R6 P2?

it’s ZB4 R5. I will take a screenshot when it happens next. Though I think the grey flat colour thing could be due to turning off mrgb button when not in edit mode. Though it still doesn’t fix the wierd shader bug caused by exiting projection master. Will try to take a screen cap of that next time.

You should update to the latest version of ZBrush, 4R6 P2. This is free for registered users. If this is a bug (rather than a workflow issue) then we can only look into it if you’re using the latest version.

Thanks,

Ok thanks, will look into the update

In addition to Z-Intensity and RGB values, other Draw settings can change as well depending on which brushes / stroke types you might use while in 2.5d mode. For example, switching to the Simplebrush can give you RGB 25, Z 25, and Depth 0.2

The depth value in particular could remove the appearance of specular by flattening the mesh, but chances are you’d also notice the model being flattened as soon as you go to rotate. Still though, it might be worth looking around at other values the next time it happens to make sure everything is properly reset.

One way to force these values to incorrectly stick is to save a project (or let quicksave happen) while the 2.5d state is active.

Cryrid,
Thanks for that information, it’s very useful.
