Projecting with a plane...

Hi,

I want to project an image onto my model by using a plane once in “Projection Master”. It’s all good but when I try to use the “Move” brush to tweak the image around (or any other brush for that matter) it just does’t work. No vertex moves in any way.

Yet, I tryed the same thing last Friday and it worked fine. And today, I’ve tryed many times, and restarting zbrush everytime… nothing works.

Please help!!

Well, maybe if you described the steps you’re following and settings you’re using?

Also, has anything changed since when it did work? Have you installed any plugins, for example?

I didn’t add any plugin since my last use.

Here are the steps I’m tying out today:

  1. import the model I want to texture (a head).

2.I draw it on the canvas, go into edit, and position it to match the texture I want to project on.

3.Create a texture and go into “Projection Master” with “Colors” and “Fade” on.

4.get the texture and create a 3d plane with the intensity at 0. I did the “Make polymesh3D” before getting into the projection master so it can be editable.

  1. Try to use the move brush to modify the 3dplane while in “edit” mode. Nothing works.

It’s weird because I can only edit the side of the plane. And when I do “Shift+F” to see the wireframe of the plane, I can see that the plane is through the head and only the parts where I see the wireframe can be moved. So I thought of:

  1. getting out of edit mode (T), getting in move (M), going into “Transform”, “info”, and changing the “Z Component” value so the plane is completely infront of the head. But it’s worst, I can’t even edit it. I also tryed to put the plane behind (with the “Z component” value), same thing.

What to do?!!?

You shouldn’t make the plane a polymesh. Leave it as a parametric plane, otherwise you won’t be able to use Move mode to move the image.

You can use the Image Plane 3 plugin to quickly set up this method.

Hi marcus_civis,

I already tryed not doing “Make Polymesh3D” and you can’t edit with the brushes. If you try editing it, a message will pop up telling you to “Make Polymesh 3D” before editing. I also tryed making a plane in maya, importing it, and using that plane but it doesn’t work.

Image Plane is a fun tool and all… but it doesn’t do what I want to do. I specifically don’t want to take parts of the image here and there, I want to paste the complete image and tweak the vertices so the image matches my model.

I guess I’ll just go back to zbrush 2.

Thanks anyway!

Oups! I think I spoke to fast. I had seen video tutorials of it before but it only showed somebody using parts of the image only…

Looks like it works,… it’s just annoying I can’t work the old way

That’s the method I thought you wanted. The point is you use Edit Move mode when the plane is a parametric object (if it’s a polymesh you get the Transpose Action line so it won’t work). You shouldn’t use the sculpting brushes, they won’t work in the way you want (even for a polymesh object).

With Image Plane 3 the workflow is:

  1. Drop your Model in Projection Master.
  2. Select the Simple Brush in the tool palette and then chose the Image you want to use in the Texture Palette.
  3. Press the ImagePlane>LoadImage button. The image will automatically be set up with the Edit Move button pressed.

You will be able to adjust the texture as you wish. If you need to scale the image, turn off Edit and switch on Scale. Switch Edit and then Move back on when you’re done.

Yep, it should work just fine!

And I almost forgot : Thanks you!

My pleasure.
It really is the same method as before, it’s just that the sculpting brushes and Transpose confuse things!

Thanks! Bump!
