projecting onto imported retopologized mesh

Ok i retopologized a bust in XSI – How would i import the retopologized bust back into zbrush to project the high res detail onto it??

Is this Possible??

Thanks

yeah, just load both of your meshes (sculpted and retopo) into ZBrush, then select the ZSphere tool, go down to Tool->Rigging and Select Mesh (your sculpted bad-topo mesh). Then go to Tool->Topology and click Select Topo (your retopo mesh). After that just project the details from your sculpt onto your new topology using Tool->Projection. It might need a little cleanup, but if your new topology is well laid-out you shouldn’t have any problems at this stage.

That’s the complicated way to do it.

Simply import your new mesh and append it to the original as a SubTool. Divide it so that it has enough points to support the details that will be projected onto it. Then press Tool>SubTool>Project All.

thanks guys!!

I havn’t got to try your suggestions yet , i’ve seem to have run iinto a little problem – when i import the retopologized mesh back into zbrush it way smaller
than my original sculpt :frowning:

Any advice on how to fix this???

Thanks!

oooo…that’s an excellent question. I too have had this occur when going to Maya for retopo - is there an easy way to get the scale for the imported mesh to match? Surely there is some setting that can be adjusted to counteract this undesireable behavior…

if I’m not mistaken you can unify scale in Z3.1, but the exact procedure escapes me at the moment and I’m not on a computer with Z installed

Tool>Deformation>Unify will resize the model to 1 ZBrush unit.
