Projecting Normal map onto another subtool

Hey everyone,

I’ve made a really high res model at work, and we’ve had it decimated to about 1 to 2 % of pre-processing. Now we want to try and test this with an original normal map, but I wanted to know, is there a way in 3.5 r3 to bake a normal map onto the decimated mesh from the original 25million poly mesh? Or should we just just use a normal map from a lower subdiv on the original model for the decimated mesh?

This is probably the wrong section to post this, and I’m sorry for that. If anyone feels the need to point me in the right direction please do so. Thanks in advance =]

If you decimate using the option to retain UVs any map created for the original model will work on the decimated one.

Alternatively you’d need to make sure the decimated one has UVs, divide it to have a high polycount again, Project All to copy the details from the source model, then go to level 1 and create the normal map.

Oh yeah, I’ll definitely try that, thanks a lot aurick =]
