Project textures to different model with different UV unwrap

I may have a project at work where I am going to be supplied 2 human heads. 1 is fully textured, and unwrapped very cleanly and logically. The 2nd is a better quality model slightly different forms than the 1st, but the unwrap is not the same. Is there a way to project just the color information at a very hi resolution onto the new model? Ultimately I would like to be able to have the same quality texture as the 1st model. I am open to options within or outside of zbrush.

Thanks for any help!

Todd

Take your proper unwrap mesh and project it onto the other head at the lowest subD level, move points around as needed to fit…basically using the other head for retopology as a starting point.

subD the unwrapped mesh to support the level of detail you want and project the high subD level onto the head with the bad UVs.

That should do the trick for you.

You can do this in any other application as well. I would use 3d-coat or xNormal for the projection of the textures, but anything will work, even Zbrush.

Thanks for the response beta_channel!!! I will give this a go on Monday! I should retain the resolution of the texture as well when doing this? It’s a large map and I dont want to lose any detail.

using zbrush you might lose some during the transfer to polypaint unless your mesh is dense enough to support it.
a direct uv to uv should be fine though,
