Project brush

I’m using the latest version of Zbrush 3.5sr3 and I think I know the answer, but I’d thought I would double check.

Is there a way to project detail from one object to another in the same way as older versions of Zbrush in that you use the action line (move selected) and move select the point of projection from one object to the other and then select the draw tool and draw away. Then the detail from one object transfers to the other.

I ask because this method is so handy in many ways and I can’t seem to make it happen with this newest version. I prefer this method over projection master.

Will this be fixed in Version 4 if it doesn’t work this way now?

Here is a link to a video I did on the way I need this to work.

So I’m guessing no one knows the answer to this?

Ok, so I’m assuming this can’t be done since no one is answering or maybe I posted in the wrong area.

I am more looking to do project the object from behind like at the end of the video I made. The only way I have figured out to do this is with the objects directly on each other while using the zproject brush and projecting from behind the surface.

It also seams that if I were to use HD sculpting then I cannot hide any polygons so then I can’t see the inside surface to project to. I guess this eliminates HD projecting in the reverse side of the surface too.

Hope that helps anyone looking to do the same thing.

Well, here is what I came up with and just had to use the Zproject brush with both objects directly on top of each other. I still think the other method I described was much faster though. I also had to make polygroups on top before using decimation master because my computer doesn’t have enough memory to handle decimating it all at once.

Yes, you’re right, the old method no longer works in ZBrush 3.5 R3. Many people had problems when they didn’t want to offset the sculpt.

[EDIT: late reply partly due to Siggraph recovery period and weekend]

Thank you for responding. That’s good to know so I don’t go crazy trying to figure it out.

I did like the old way though. Why couldn’t you have the tool work like it does now and also with the action line the old way? That way it would line up centered one method and the other can be more free form. Or maybe it’s just too hard to make it happen in the programming of it? Either way it’s a great tool and thanks for having it.

I don’t know if there are technical reasons for the switch. I agree it would be good to have both options - the offset line method has always struck me as intuitive for artists familiar with cloning in image programs. I’ll pass on your comments to the development team.

Thanks,
