Project All and Hard Surface / Red Storm Video

Hey guys and girls.

So I have a question here, I was watching the Summit Video with Red Storm team and this one question came up and the guy tried to explain it as noobish as possible but I still dont understand his workflow when using Project All with his boolean’s.

Could someone explain it deeper.

Thanks

i didn’t watch it all but how i understood it, he was saying how he uses a duplicate and project all as he repeatedly dynameshes in order to keep hard edges.
meaning you have a model with a hard edge but you need to dynamesh and that softens the edge. so he makes a duplicate and dynamesh’s that. then projects the hard edge detail from the original to the duplicate and the result is a dynameshed model with a hard edge.

cutting the hole using dynamesh was a separate operation. insert a mesh, then click “sub” from the dynamesh options and it will cut that shape out of the mesh.

Yea I guess I was just confused on what way he was doing the project all. But this where I am confused, lets say he makes a big boolean cut with dynmesh active now does he dup the newly cut object with dynamesh then does another project all.

i would say it depends on whether the edge created by the cut is important enough. if you really want to keep it then yes dupe it again and keep duping as many times as desired. you only have to keep the last updated hard edged one. you can delete the others as you go.
