Problems with the move brush.

I’ve hunted around for a few weeks and couldn’t find a good solution to this, so I’m apologizing in advance if its a pretty n00b question and I just missed it :stuck_out_tongue:

Anyhow, when using the move brush is there a way to constrain it to an axis like most other apps seem to do?

I want to use the move brush to tweak my models, but its really frustrating to grab a vertex and move it a bit to the left, only to have it move an inch into the canvas instead.

I’ve tried using the snake hook tool but I can’t figure out what settings it takes to get it to behave similarly for single vertex.

Perhaps there is a better way to approach it. Say I have a perfect square, and I want to elongate just a single side by a bit. In most other 3d programs I’d find my side view, select both vertices and drag them to the side.

In Zbrush I use the move tool set to 100% intensity and 1 range, and when I try to move one of the corners it moves to the side, but also gets set to some arbitrary point in the middle. Then I have to turn the camera and pull it back out - but then it arbitrarily pushes it a bit into the canvas, ruining my initial move. Quite literally I’ve sat here for 10 minutes trying to do this simple operation without any success.

I know you can toggle X, Y and Z to force a constraint there, but it seems like a way must be possible to constrain it to your current X/Y and just ignore the depth of the view. Maybe not.

Thanks in advance for any help you can provide me with.

You may do this with transpose (move), mask and shift key. The transpose line will be the axis you move along.

Under Transform>Modifiers, turn off Xyz and turn on the particular axis (or axes) that you wish to allow.

These are based off the mode’s local coordinates rather than the canvas. So Z turned on would allow changes along the model’s Z axis no matter how the model is actually oriented on the canvas.
