Problems with symmetry.

Many times when building ZSpheres I end up with unfixable symmetry problems. I do all my due diligence and am very careful about what im doing when constructing but still end up with unsymmetrical geometry? Sometimes to the point where spheres on either side will not evan move, scale or rotate from left to right side. As is the case with this current mesh. If I move a sphere on either side of the mesh the move dose not mirror. However if I move a child sphere the move dose mirror. The lower legs and from forearms down the mesh is completely symmetrical.

Running smart resym, mirror or in Preview mode dose not fix it. Also making adaptive skin and applying Smart resym dose not fix it either.

Seams I’m always running into the same kind issues. Not sure what im doing wrong. Any input on how to avid these problems and fix the current model would be great.

You’re just running into one of the common issues with Zspheres for complex work–perfect symmetry is often difficult to obtain beyond fairly simple adaptive skin models.

Depending on what you’re doing, you can just live with it, since when you have symmetry on, Zbrush mirrors your strokes, not point positions. This means that if you have enough density, you will have visual reproduction of symmetry.

However, for my animation students, where Symmetry comes into play vis-a-vis rigging and other needs, my usual recommendation is to either create your base mesh in a traditional polygon modeler or plan to re-topo at some point in the creative process. You can pretty easily build up a symmetrical mesh with ZB’s topo tools, though I prefer Topogun for this myself.

If you are super-careful with Zspheres all along the way, you can get symmetrical output, but it will take practice and it really isn’t Zspheres/Zsketch’s forte. A retopo step should just be planned as part of your routine if you’re going to need perfectly point-symmetrical output, though smart resym can sometimes get you close.

Thanks for the insight. :+1:

i find similar issues happening. try diameter of the brush and feather; sometime if you make the brush larger in comparison with the zoom the symetery will reset itself? worked for me when i have lots of zspheres.

Personally i take all my geometry created in ZB into an external package (Lightwave) and clean it up in terms of symmetry, edgeflow and what not. After that i go back to ZB to sculpt. Like that i very often can avoid having to do Retopology (which is no big deal, but for an entire character will take at least a day).
