Problems with r4 p2...

I tried posting this in the Pixologic support area but haven’t heard anything a this point.
Thought I would post here…

Unfortunately, I have just started using the latest upgrade, ZB4 R4 P2…
I’ve been working on a long-term project in R3.
When I went to load my files from R4P2 I was shocked to see my files were not compatible.
The photo I have below illustrates the issues at hand.
My project is close to completion and I would like to render it in R4P2.
What is the problem here?

Do you have a texture map on your model? It looks to me as though the texture map has embedded materials and the Bump Viewer Material is occupying the slot in 4R4 that was occupied by your skin material in R3.

Hi, No texture map…
It does look like the newer ZB is seeing the spotlight / polypaint as a texture though.

thx.

If it’s polypaint then my idea still holds. That looks like the Bump Viewer Material. As an experiment, try this (make sure your model is backed up first):

  1. With your model in Edit mode, select the Flat Color material in the Materials palette.
  2. Turn on the ‘M’ (material) button in the Draw palette.
  3. In the Color palette, press Fill Object.
  4. Select the SkinShade4 material.

Hi Marcus,

That worked!
HOWEVER, It is still MatCap Red in color, but I can see the paint in there…

THANKS!

Marcus…

I got to work…

I loaded my original Material and the correct polypaint came up!

Can you tell me why ZB4 R4 P2 is having this problem?

Thanks again for your help!

It’s not a problem, it is simply that for your installation of R3 you have custom materials installed and they have not been duplicated across to the R4 installation. ZBrush Materials occupy ‘slots’. Normally the selected material is shown over all of the model but if you paint with (or embed) materials as well as color then ZBrush looks at the slots to decide which material to show. If you load a custom material it will replace the material already in the slot you choose. If you load the model in a later session and the custom material is not available then ZBrush will show the default material for that slot.
