problems importing edited objs into zbrush

i have had this problem for a while and it is really holding me up right now.
when i need to edit sculpted meshs in 3dmax i export the level 1 obj from zbrush into max, then i edit the mesh in max and bring it back in. i have done this with many other apps and not had a problem but max seems to change the point order no matter what i do. i have tried uncheccking and checking all the boxes, not collapsing stack collapsing stack, reseting xform not reseting xform. nothing is working does anyone know the solution?

yeah, the max obj exporter/importer does something weird with vert order, it’s a common problem with max users. The only solution I can give is to take max mesh back into zbrush and instead of import it as your level 1 sculpt, add it as a subtool, subdivide it to the same level, and then hit project all. it’ll transfer your sculpt/paint over to the new mesh. It has some trouble with holes though, so be aware of that.

how are you editing the mesh? if you’re adding or removing anything it won’t work.

if you’re exporting out your polygroups as different elements into max and then you weld them, you changed something.

if you’re just doing UV’s that is fine.

anyway, if you’re using max 2008+ you need to turn off everything in the optimize settings in the exporter

im not changing anything other then the position of the obj. and i have already tried turning evrything on and off. i found a thread on this forum that has someones app but that is also not work.

why are you changing the position of the mesh?

you can always export out the high into max, and move that since you seem to have to move it. then just import that into Zbrush and reconstruct the subdivisions.

tried that, its too high and my 3dsmax crashes when i try

anyone know how to move multiple subtools together? i would like to try and just move the objects in zbrush i guess but not sure how
