I made a basic Model of a sword Im making and I wanted to add Detail to it so I tried in maya but it wont let me mirror Symmetry on both sides. So Instead I Imported it into Zbrush, now when I turn on symmetry inside of zbrush, it mirrors on the same side instead of each side. The only conclusion is that I may of accidently made it more than four sides (the cutting edge to blame), any sudgestions? Pic is below of what I mean
Someone Has To Have An Answer For Me Lol
I think you probably just need to change the symmetry axis. In the Transform palette, under Activate Symmetry you can switch between >X<, >Y< and >Z<. Make sure the >M< button is on so that the sculpting is mirrored (otherwise you’ll get it indented on one side.
I tried what you said, and its offset abit how do I fix it? Its on the Y-axis for some reason. And when I try to add detail, it draws on one side and cuts form the other
depending on how it is off set you may have to hit unify in the Tool:deformation pallet, or change it in the preview window. You may also try Transform: S.pivot, when done make sure to Clear pivot, which will return to your original pivot, if that is what you wish.
to stop from drawing through both sides Goto the Brush menu and turn on Backface masking, this should help.
hey spaceboy412 (or anyone else),
could you please elaborate on the “unify in the Tool:deformation pallet” and “Transform: S.pivot” tools/techniques. I’m curious how and what exactly those things do, when to use them etc. I’ve heard of these things before, and I think it would be good to know and understand them and what they do, but presently I don’t. Thanks.
fattkid,
Tool>Deformation>Unify basically scales your model so that it is a standard ZBrush size. (This may not be what you want if the scale of your model in another app is important!) Unify also centers the model in world space which can help correct some symmetry problems.
Transform>Set Pivot temporarily sets the center of the mesh to the visible portion (which can be the whole model). All deformations will use this temporary pivot, including symmetry. To return the pivot position to its original press Transform>Clear Pivot. Set Pivot can be useful for working on subtools that are symmetrical but positioned away from the ztool center.
HTH,
