Problem with Smoothing Certain Area- Getting imploding spikes

Hey yall

So im having an issue with smoothing my feet on my current human mesh in zbrush. As soon as i smooth anywhere on this area the mesh(only feet area) shoot upwards into thousands of little spikes likes its imploding. the rest of the mesh however is perfectly fine. Ive checked the normals and UVs and all seems to be good. Not sure where to even start troubleshooting so Im open to suggestions

for what its worth…

using …
zb 3.1
xp64bit
4gb ram
dual core 3ghz process

cheers

The place to begin is: why are you still using 3.1 instead of 3.5?

sounds like a scale issue to me…3.1 had a problem with it.

check tool>preview and make sure your mesh fits within the window.

if it is too large or too small subD’s create issues with spikes.
tool>deformation>unify
should fix the problem

goast: thanks, ill check the unify issue out. never had a scale issue before after all this time, weird

aurick: a big reason im still using 3.1 is the zmapper issue, I NEED IT. unless im behind the times and they finally added zmapper to zb3.5.1 or something im good… seriously, wasn’t zb4 supposed to be out last september, and still no Go-Z for the PC yet?! Hopefully im just slow on the updates and its already out… guess now is a good time to check.

thanks goast! unify worked!
