problem with polypaint-resolution

Hi,

my model´s polycount is about 1,5 and if I try another division working isn´t fun anymore. Is there a method I can paint in a more detailed texture without further dividing my model? Thanks in advance

Yes, you can use HD Geometry. There’s a video on sculpting in HD in the classroom much of which applies to polypainting. Provided you have ZBrush 3.5R3 you will be able to transfer the HD polypaint to a texture.

hey marcus_civis thanks again. Unfortunately I am still working with zbrush 3.1. Any other ideas?

Why don’t you upgrade to 3.5?

Also, people tend to forget, if your model has UVs you can apply a texture to it and paint directly onto the texture with Projection Master. Then your detail is limited only by the size of the applied image texture and the way your UVs are laid out, regardless of the subD level of your model.

Frankly, I find this produces superior results and crisper detail in most cases, the downside is, it isnt as “interactive” as polypainting, allowing you to only paint one side of the model at a time.

You can do it, however, without the increased performance burden of having to subdivide a model into the millions necessary to capture crisp detail and the associated brush lag.

Hi All,

I’m running ZBrush 3.5 and I can’t seem to get my High Def Sculpting and Painting onto my color maps/and Normal Maps. I click on the New from Polypaint button like in the video…and do all the steps in the Video but everything is low res still… I made pumped up the Standard SUBDivision Levels to a Polycount of 1.1 Million Polygons as recommended and then I clicked the DivideHD button until I had 283.9 Million Polygons. The sculpts look great at that level.

My next question is there was a ZBrush Update yesterday that said ZBrush 3.5 R3…I have not installed that version of ZBrush on my computer. I have 3.5 but installed but I don’t know what version of 3.5 it is.

Do i need to upgrade to Zbrush 3.5 R3 get the HD Sculpting to be able to transfer properly to the color and Normal Maps? Does that feature not work on earlier versions of 3.5 ?

…I’m using 4096 x 4096 image maps…I even tried 8000 x 8000 to see if it would make a difference and i just got the same results.

Hope to hear back from you soon,

Adam:)

Sorry to burst in the conversation…
Would interactive “projection master” like painting plus symmetry be available in one of the upcoming releases?
PolyPainting is terrible when it comes to high amounts of polygons, splitting the model or using HD divisions doesn’t give the same crisp result as Projection Master and it’s also not very comfortable… Using Projection Master doesn’t give you the ability to use symmetry and it often causes artifacts that needs cleaning up…

Thanks.
