Problem with lighting - black model after BPR:(

Hello.

I have started to learning this program two days ago and im slowly falling in love with it. Especially that its my first contact with 3d stuff making software  Long time ago i have tryied 3dsmax but i felt overhelmed and it felt to “technical”. Anyway to the point: I have sculped my first practise-object and it went out pretty neat! (at least i think so). However i have a problem with lightning. I have been following great 10 parts tutorial on youtube and the lighting part was problematic… Person on youtube could use it well, while whenever i try to use it, it kind of bugs out on me. Im trying to cast light from below that imp to give him more mysterious, evil look.

Here are 3 screens in this order:

  1. preview render

  2. fast render

  3. BPR

The non-BRP, but “best” button in render window produce something better than BPR, but also black almost invisible model - nothing like the fast render would indicate :S

What is the problem? Thanks in advance for any help.

try setting your light type to sun rather then glow ?? move the light a bit ?

I was trying all types and moved it on all axises in lights settings… the model remained black in BPR. Also on movies on youtube i see the lights being shown on “preview” render settings while on my PC (which is much stronger than PC of the author of these youtubematerials) it didnt show any difference wheni play with lights in preview render mode. Only in “fast”. Looks like i got it bugged or i am missing something

Wierd part is that sometimes it works (a bit) and sometimes not. When i used “sun” type, it didnt really gave the effect similiar to what “fast” render shown.

I have also tryied enabling more lights to the default one after “init zbrush” but there was either no chance whatsoever or model went black like here

p.s.
So does “glow” ligth type mean “none”?

I don’t know if you figured this out yet but you have only a glow light selected. BPR does not work with Glow or Point lights. It only works with Sun or Spot and the radial button on or off. Having the glow on will result in a totally black image.

If you want some glow with a BPR render use the material mixers Shader Blend Mode found for each shader in any given material you have on your model. You can also use the BPR Filters Glow Filter after you render your model in BPR.

You can also take it to Photoshop or Gimp (free) and either composite all the renders including one with just a best render and the glow light and glow material on and then separate BPR renders and overlay all of them to make a full image with glow. Also a cool sort of glow around your model can be made with the Orton Filter in the BPR Filter menu fond in the Render menu (F4 I believe it is) Play with those setting after you make a BPR render pass.

Hope this all helps and also welcome to ZBCentral and ZBrush hope you have lot’s of fun and lot’s of models. I like this one already. Take care
