Problem with extracting a subtool

I’m not 100% sure if this is the correct forum to be posting this on, but none the less, here’s my problem.

I created my human model in Maya and exported it as a .obj. I import it into ZBrush fine with no problems. However, when I try to mask it, this is where my first problem arises. I can mask it fine. However, the cursor doesn’t mirror my masking. I can’t mask stuff on one side of my character and have it show up on the other side. How can I apply a mirror to that? And secondly, when I’m all done masking, and I click on “Extract” under the subtool menu, it extracts what I masked, but it doesn’t show up as a new subtool and as soon as i rotate my view the extraction disappears. Can anyone please help me with this? It’s probably a newbie problem but I’m really new to the program and I’m just using a trial to see if I like it or not. Thank you.

Hmmm…There hasn’t been a trial version of ZBrush since, I believe, ZBrush 4.0. What version of ZBrush are you using?

He’d be using a newer version if extract isn’t instant, so maybe its a “trial” cough cough

For that particular issue, there’s a button next to the extract button that lets you accept the result. Otherwise you’re just given a preview of what it will look like, in case you need to make some changes.

Symmetrical mirroring would depend more on your symmetry settings, if you’re using local or not, and perhaps the center point of the mesh

Thank you! I managed to fix the extraction problem. But I still can’t figure out how to mirror the mask. If I open a premade file it’s enabled. But not when I start a new one and import my model.

Sounds like your object isn’t mirrored. Turn on local sym (right hand shelf) or it is in the transform panel (I think).
See if that works.
also try playing with your axis also found in the transform panel near the bottom with the activate symmetry button.
