problem sculpting a thin model

Hi guys. I’m trying to work on a model thats particularly thin but when i try to use any brush the mesh either goes through to the other side of the model or the side im working on comes out ok but the other side gets pulled in and distorted. is there a way to prevent this from happening, only solution i found is using very small brush but thats very impractical. thanks.
