problem in layers

hi,i need help :frowning: i am having trouble working in layers. for me layer works well if i am working in sculpting and polypainting.
but there is some problem in filling object with colors. filled colors disappears the moment I switch recording on or off or move to another layer
I found 1 solution few days back instead of filling object I used to polypaint the object(as I already mentioned polypaint works well for me).
But now I am facing similar problem in converting texture into polypaint .so can some1 help me out through this situation really need help urgently.

I don’t understand the problem you are having. If you are using layers for polypainting then you must fill the mesh first before trying to record color to a layer. You cannot fill a layer with color but you can paint over the whole mesh.

As for converting polypaint to texture, please say exactly what steps you are taking and show pictures of the problem.

ok sir I ll explain in detail, as I know filling colors won’t work when layers are turned on. Same case with texturing polypaint>colorize>grad>polypaint from texture.
So in such cases I started turning off my layers.
starting with issues in filling object with colors:subtool selected, layers turned off I pick color & color>fill object result fine objects filled with desired colors(layers were off).
Now I want to poly paint few design in layer I create new layer start polypainting & create few strokes or designs. Everything fine here again. but the moment I create another layer for the purpose of more diff strokes & texturing styles n designs. My filled color goes invisible now I can see only the material and rgb strokes of second layers only .where my filled color gone??

Similar issue with imported textures as well
Layesr off >subtool selected, I go texture>import>flip v>texture map>thumbnail n select texture(layers off as I mentioned)
I go polypaint>colorize>grad>polypaint from texture ,checking both by switch on off texture both visible (polypaint works).in order to do more texturing I create another layer draw some rgb strokes it working fine. All is well. I go to texture map>new from polypaint .wow texture ready. But wait if I create another layer for more texturing while click new layer same thing happens texture goes out only material is there and rgb strokes of second layer .same as it was happening in filling objects. If you are still using ZBrush 4 you should upgrade to 4R2. This is free to registered users. I tested in 4R2 so this may account for a different result from you.

A. I can’t reproduce your first issue. For example I tried:

  1. Loading a polysphere and filling it with red.
  2. Creating a new layer and painting a green stroke.
  3. Creating a second layer and painting a blue stroke.
  4. Creating a third layer and painting a yellow stroke.

B. I did encounter issues when trying to create polypaint from a texture. To be sure of it working be sure to TURN OFF ALL LAYERS first. You cannot create polypaint from texture on a layer in record mode and if a layer is visible then the polypaint will appear to have worked but will disappear as soon as you switch the layer off and on again.

well sir i know why you dint had same issue in 1st problem because there was no previous layer in your scene. try few sculpts in two or three layer and then try again to resolve my 1st issue.
and sir i already mention i turned off my all layers while doing all such methods but still having these problems.
lets see i ll try to update z4r2 hope things ll turn well :slight_smile:
btw sir there is some awkward way to solve this issue but thats not the proper solution.if i bake all the layers before filling color or textures i wont have same issue it works fine and i can create new layers further too .but issue is watt if we want previous layers for proper texturing purpose :frowning:
