Preview Shadows v.s. Best Shadows?

Ok, here is a simple (?) question.

How should I set up lights such that the shadows in best mode look somewhat close to what they’re like in preview mode?

Here’s an example. A ball and a plane. The plane is a random non-matcap material (quad shader I think). First is preview and second is best. Not that I think the preview shadows in this shot are great, but I’d like some insight on how to make the best shadows approximate them so I have some accurate feedback about what I’m doing.

Or, if you think that my thoughts are wrong-headed, I would like to hear about that too.

Thank you very much.

From the wiki:
“To emulate Preview Shadows for a Best Render, using the default settings and canvas size, try the following settings: Shadow Intensity: 75, Length: 30, ZMode: On, Unified Shadows: 25, Blur: 5, Rays: 250, Aperture: 65.”

Theoretically it sounds like the answer for your question. I`m not sure if that will give the results you want but I got a pretty cool light setup with these settings. It works well with some materials.

That’s a great help. Thanks.

Where in the wiki did you find that?

Here: http://www.zbrush.info/docs/index.php/Shadows

The wiki has lots of info but in my humble opinion it`s not well organised, I think I would be lost in it if I would be new to Zbrush.

Glad I could help!

Technically I’m not new, but I haven’t used it for a good year plus now. Half of what I thought I knew, I can’t remember any more.
