Preview Screen

When sculpting there are certain cases where I could use another (simultaneous) view. So at the moment I try using the preview function to help me a view a different perspective. Although, I was wondering is there some type of trick to zoom in the preview screen. Because on larger meshes I find it difficult to see smaller surfaces. Or is there a plugin that can give another viewport, or perspective out there:qu:

The Preview window can’t be used to zoom the view, as doing that would actually scale the model. It’s a view of how the model fits within one ZBrush unit of space. Enlarging it in the view changes how it fits, which also translates to the canvas.

There is a reason why ZBrush doesn’t have multiple viewports. You can see what I mean by turning on Preferences>Interface>Use Alt Doc View. This adds an expander bar at the top of the canvas. Click that to toggle the Alt view and then drag it to make it larger or smaller. This is a second view of the document which can be panned and zoomed independently. Click whichever one you want to make the view active, and switch between them at any time.

This is very handy for painting fine detail where you want to see how it looks in the big picture. But try drawing a model on the canvas and working with it in Edit mode. You’ll see an immediate and very noticeable decrease in performance. I have a Core i7 quad core system with 6 GB of RAM and sculpting with the alt view active pretty much sucks. There just isn’t any way to do what you’re after at this point in time.

What you can do is to snapshot the model in a corner of the canvas from the angle that you want to keep an eye on. Place a marker by pressing M. At any time you can exit Edit mode, clear the canvas, and click the marker to refresh that view of the model. This isn’t real-time, but it also doesn’t suffer the performance hit that such a view entails.

The non-realtime view helps loads!!! Thanks a bundle.
