Preserving Lower Subdivision Levels

Hail fellow zBrushers!

So I’ve rebuilt the topology from a scanned model I am working on, and I’ve run into a bit of a problem with preserving the lowest level of the rebuilt topology while adding more subdivitions to add fine detail.

It seems as if my Tool has saved the level of subdivisions from when I created my adaptive skin, but it will not let me subdivide any more from that level (stuck at 5).

Now, I can “Make Polymesh 3D,” which will allow me to add more subdivisions to the Tool, but now I have lost the lower subdivision levels I need in order to create my displacement/normal map.

Is there a button that I am missing that will allow me to preserve the lower subdivision levels of a tool when making a polymesh 3D, or is there something else I need to do?

Any help is greatly appreciated.

While you’re still working with ZSpheres you set the available number of subdivisions using the Tool>Adaptive Skin>Density slider. So if you have 5 levels and want 7 then you’d increase this slider by two. You then use Tool>Geometry to move between levels.

Tool>Adaptive Skin>Make Adaptive Skin converts the ZSphere work into an independent mesh using the number of levels defined by the Density slider.

Ok. Wow. I could have sworn the Tool I saved was made into an independent Mesh, but it was still in Preview mode, which is why I could not subdivide further. -duh

Awesome, aurick, thank you! :+1:

Hi!
Thought I throw in a Q regarding the subdiv topic too, hope it’s ok.

:small_orange_diamond: Is it possible to rebuild the lower subdivision levels?
I think I accidental pushed the wrong button earlier in the project. Now I only have the highest level to work with.
(I have earlier versions of the model saved)

Best.

Yes!
Found it here, http://209.132.96.165/zbc/showthread.php?t=65392
I had do it slightly different thou.

:small_orange_diamond:I loaded my “V1.0” of the model and appended it to my “V1.2” model as a subtool, then pressed “Reconstruct Subdiv” a few times and voilá!

Best!
