Preferences - Memory

Hi,

In the past, I have set my ‘Compact Memory’ at
approximately half my RAM. In other words, if I
have 8 gigs of RAM, I set my Compact Memory to
about 4 (thousand) or 4096.

Now, with Z4R4, is this still effective or is there new math?

Also, I have set my ‘MaxPolyPerMesh’ at
approximately twice my Ram, or in other words, I
translate my 8 gigs of RAM into about a setting
of ‘16’.

Also, I used to Turn on iFlipY & eFlipY under
Import/Export. Because that option is now gone, I
assume the orientation differences between ZBrush
and other programs (like MAYA) no longer matter.

Is this true?

Thanks!

~S.~

I wouldn’t set the compact memory setting to any more than what you know will be available to ZBrush. On a 64bit system, ZBrush can only use a maximum of 4GB. For a system of 8GB or over then probably a setting of 4096 would be OK, unless you like to use a lot of high memory programs together, in which case set it lower.

The MaxPolyPerMesh is generally set automatically by ZBrush. For a 64bit system of 6GB of RAM then a setting of 18 million is about the limit. You can set it higher on a temporary basis but only on a temporary basis.

The Import/Export iFlipY & eFlipY are turned on by default. The settings are still there - you need to expand the different sections in the Preferences>Importexport subpalette. If you use GoZ between ZBrush and another program then you don’t need to worry about those settings.
