Precision Masking using Layers? Possible?

Im a little new to zbrush, but ive done research and havent found the control I need to mask a part of my model.

Is there a way which I can fill a layer with a mask ( alpha / texture… ), and place my model ( in a seperate layer ) over the mask, so that I can effectivley align the position of the mask precisley before I apply it?

** The drag dot stroke does not work for me, I see no way of orienting the image on the mesh without spending allot of time dragging the mouse around trying to get the orientation you need… so this method doesnt work in this case.

Thanks for any assistance!

What I can suggest here is that you UV unwrap your object then paint a black and white testure for your model. Then you convert the black and white testure to a mask.

I think that that’s the only way that you can get ‘precise’ masking. You could try projection master or Zapplink to create the initial black and white texture but there canbe restrictions there.

Hope this helps.

you could also try converting an alpha to a stencil.
When you activate stencil mode you can control the exact placement interactively and with precision…you can also scale and rotate it.
For more info check out “stencil”

I think stencil is what i was looking for, but I will also try the other two methods … uv unwrap and Zapplink

Thanks for the advice, I’m sure at least one of these will work well!

I’m going to use this opportunity to plead with pixologic to improve the masking options in future versions of zbrush. Please please, pretty please!

Well it was worth a try
