Prb: Edges refuse to crease

I’m pretty sure I’ve seen this one before…

I’ve imported what I believe to be a nice clean mesh as an OBJ. and I’m
off adding creases in critical places prior to dividing. One or more edges
refuse to crease (see attached). That is, they look to have creased, but
appear to lose the crease when I unhide the remaining polys.

Anyone any ideas what’s going on? I’ve checked for some obvious things
like stray normals or duplicate verts. The mesh looks clean.

i think this might be due to a different problem which i have encountered. just to see if it is, instead of creasing once you have the mesh hidden, try making an edge loop, if you get weird results than its probably the same. either way you might want to try this.

  1. Turn off Tool:Geometry:Smt and then press Tool:Geometry: Divide once.

  2. Press Tool:Geometry: Del Lower.

  3. Press Tool:Texture:Enable UV and then press Tool:Geometry:Reconstruct Subdiv.

  4. At the lower subdiv level press Tool:Geometry: Del Higher. As any polygroups will have been lost you may wish to press Tool:Polygroups:Group Visible.

Thanks spaceboy412

I’ll give it a try tonight. You’ve made me realise something. The mesh
I’m importing is subdiv’d once in Blender before export. I should be able
to either not subdiv it, or reconstruct subdiv after import. I’ll experiment.

OK. FYI. As spaceboy412 predicted, an attempt to edge loop messed
up (attached img).

However the trick of dividing, deleting lower-res and reconstructing subdiv
worked just fine. I was then able to add a crease correctly.

I also tried reconstructing subdiv from my base level, but found I could not
crease at the reconstructed lower-resolution, so I dropped it.

Thanks again spaceboy412.

glad to help, i swear this even used to happen to me in z2, strange little quirk that pops up for no apparent reason.

credit for the fix actually goes to marcus civis btw.
