And not have it show up in a darker shade? Thanks.

I don’t believe that is possible in 3.5. Being able to see the model was a much-requested feature because people like to be able to see how their details will line up with the rest of the model.

You can darken it to the point that it’s almost black, though. This is done by minimizing the value of the Preferences>Edit>Inactive Subtool Dimming slider.
